RC Factory Yak 55 V2
How do you improve upon a classic design? Well RC Factory has managed with the V2 version of the ever popular Yak 55. All the great flying properties have been retained with major enhancements to the looks successfully created, thus producing a new model that is even sharper than its predecessor.
The Yak 55 has always been the hardcore 3D model of choice amongst the RC Factory supporters and the V2 is certain to become as popular. RC Factory designs are popular for so many reasons. All the designs have phenomenal low speed characteristics that make them ideal for mastering 3D. Large control surfaces and in particular the Yak 55 huge rudder ensure this model can turn and twist within its own length giving even your unplanned manoeuvres the wow factor. We would always recommend powering your Yak 55 with our light weight but extremely powerful set-up, as you are assured incredible performance that will enhance your flying experience. RC Factory designs are most often the choice of the EPP 3D junkie. Virtually limitless ability makes an RC Factory aircraft one of the best 3D trainers around. Forget some of the latest expensive moulded foamies – yes the look lovely but they cannot match the sheer ability of an RCF design.
The Yak 55 V2 adds a new dimension to RC Factory manufacturing with printed surfaces on both top and bottom of the wing and the tailplane. This is a nice touch with the understated underside providing an excellent contrast to the top surface. The upper edge of the fuselage and canopy that was traditionally a straight cut edge on older RCF designs also features a new bevelled edge for a smoother more finished appearance. The Yak is constructed almost entirely of tough EPP foam that bends not breaks and is reinforced where necessary with carbon rod and strip. The model assembles rapidly utilising interlocking parts and pre cut slots. Small hardware, lightweight Kevlar pull-pull, grp components and a tough but light carbon undercarriage are also included.
The Yak 55 power requirements are similar to the RS352 and SU29 so anywhere from 100W to 200W will fly the model. Our recommended ‘Classic’ power set just tops the 200W with a high discharge pack and is extremely popular and highly recommended by everyone who uses it. The RS352 has been designed for 9-12g micro servos but we would recommend using high torque versions when powered at the upper limits. Please consider metal geared servos on at least the tail surfaces if you intend to use the model like an animal (you will turn into one!). Plastic geared servos no matter how good quality will struggle to tolerate the abuse these models can sustain and there’s nothing worse than having to dig out servos from the foam for replacement. If your going plastic consider the TowerPro SG91R as these are high torque and constructed with tougher gears than the lower cost versions but can be purchased as a set of four for fractionally more than one ‘quality’ brand servo. As far as Li-Po batteries are concerned we would say keep it light with any thing from 600 – 1300mAh 3S. The best performance is achieved with high discharge Li-Po’s in the 800-1000mAh capacity range but additional pack weight can be useful in those less than ideal flying conditions where the weight adds some increased stability to the airframe. There are some hefty pack recommendations advised by other retailers and we advise to avoid these unless you want a truly average performer with reduced ability. We build and fly these models for ourselves and only recommend what we consider to be optimal.
