Telink 3D Buster EPP Biplane - IDO SEGEV DESIGN
Ido Segev and Telink have recently collaborated on a new design. Actually, recently is probably the wrong word to use as this model has been painstakingly tested with six prototypes produced before the design was finally signed off by Ido. The result is the 3D Buster. This is a unique and charismatic EPP aircraft that promises unprecedented performance in a biplane format. Once again Ido and Telink create another product of genius.
The 3D Buster is a compact airframe manufactured from tough EPP. As with all Telink designs carbon reinforcement abounds. This combination of EPP and carbon creates a stiff structure that benefits from greater rigidity than its competitors. Cleverly the 3D Buster shares the same motor mount that is used in all the 1.1m designs so the upgraded aluminium Secraft or ParkAero mount will fit should you wish to improve the motor cooling or just the cool looks factor. The 3D Buster features a new Ido scheme that is highly attractive and clearly visible but also unmistakeable ‘Ido’. A welcome addition to the 3D Buster is the inclusion of new glass fibre control horns – a first for Telink and something we hope will be introduced to the other designs in the range.
Having spoken to Ido with regards to the 3D Busters equipment requirements I’m pleased to announce that all the gear used on his other designs will be equally at home in the 3D Buster. Ido sticks with the same motor, esc and Li-Po with all his Telink designs. This keeps the costs moderated and allows flyers to transfer gear from one airframe to another should they choose to retire another Telink design or just move on. Our popular matching Telink power set will be ideal and is now supplied with exactly the same 2217 motor as Ido uses. This new motor is coupled to our reliable SBEC esc and APC propeller for effortless power and performance just as Ido envisaged. To complete the equipment requirements just add your favourite 3S Li-Po and servos and your complete. Talking of Li-Po’s, Ido informed me that all his designs are flown with the same 20C 187g 3S for consistency but reckons that any pack up to 195g should be fine. Notice however the 20C rating. Not a high discharge heavy pack and I can’t see the performance is lacking in any way in the videos. Servos are again another none critical choice. The 3D Buster is very light and extremely responsive in the roll axis and Ido recommends micro/mini servos in the 1.7 – 2.2 kg output category so the choice is vast. However, you can’t go far wrong with our ParkAero MG65's or how about our ParkAero DMG65's if you fancy digital. Both servos types are light, strong and fast and suit the Telink requirements perfectly.
To sum up. If you want the latest and possibly the greatest EPP foam biplane available with all the normal mixing issues that plague the biplane configuration ironed out then the 3D Buster could be the machine for you.

9th December 2011. Ido has just forwarded a link to a video showing how to construct the Buster of which we have embeded below. The video was shot by Adi who is a friend of Ido. The video is well worth a look if your considering this aircraft and shows how quickly and easily this biplane can be assembled.
2nd May 2012. Please note that the video has now been modified at 1.10 to indicate that the 3D Buster should be constructed with only a single carbon rod in each wing panel and not two as Adi has chosen to build his model. The mention of two rods per wing panel has created confusion with builders as the kit instructions indicate correctly a single spar per wing.
