Telink’s release for 2011 is a departure from the previous Russian aerobats with a new model inspired by the US manufactured single seat Zivko Edge 540. No radial cowls here, just a streamlined design that has proved itself in the full size world as not only a tremendous aerobatic aircraft but quite an effective tool for air racing. The Edge 540 is possibly one of the most recognised aerobatic aircraft to the general public thanks to the wide use of the full size machine in the Red Bull air race series that had proved such a hit.
Telinks recent models have all been conceived in collaboration with talented designers and flyers. The latest Edge design can be contributed to Brad Calcagno. Brads skills are relatively unknown in the UK but his designs created for his own company Twisted Hobby’s have proved amazingly popular State side with an escalating reputation that’s spreading. Brad designer credentials tick all the boxes and we know thanks to our businesses close collaboration that he has ensured that the new Telink Edge has different characteristics to the previous Telink designs. This model has been conceived to appeal to the very hardest of hardcore 3D flyers. Closer coupling of the tail surfaces to wing ensure rapid pitch changes are possible providing amazing tumbling ability so no plastic geared servos on this little monster thank you.
Sensibly the model is supplied in bright scale like colour scheme that should appeal to everyone. This is definitely a model to ‘Tango’ with. Sorry, couldn’t resist. With the Edge Telink has continued providing a plain white underside for a sharp contrast or a blank sheet for the artists amongst us.
As with all Telink design strength and rigidity are paramount along with the durability that only EPP can bring. The Edge follows similar construction techniques to the Telink Yak 55. This dispenses with the mid fuselage carbon tube method as used on the Su29 for the stronger fuselage length solid twin carbon rods with top rod supports. The design uses the standard ply motor mount found on both the Yak and SU so the upgraded Secraft aluminium mount will also fit perfectly and enhance the looks and cooling ability of the motor tremendously. As with all 1.1m Telink all surfaces are supplied pre bevelled with formed hinge line. An accessory pack also is included containing all small hardware - pushrods, quick links etc. Control horns included are the newly revised Telink GRP items. Gone, we hope forever are the original black moulded items.
To equip the Edge we would strongly suggest to keeping it light but strong. Our newly revised Telink power set will provide enough urge for all flyers. The Telink 2217 motor is a beasty with a suggested 10 x 4.7sf prop. We always try to offer the lightest most powerful set-ups for our models which for most flyers work perfectly, but these motors work hard. The combination of a large diameter, low pitch slow fly propeller pushes the motors to the very extreme so be kind to your motor and give it time to cool between flights. For servos you can’t go to far wrong with our ParkAero MG65's all round. Digital lovers can opt for the ParkAero DMG65's. We must reinforce the fact that metal gear servos are essential though. Battery choice is a real no brainer. Any reasonable discharge 3S Li-Po in the 1300-2250mAh 3S region will fit the bill. The most popular size will be around the 2000mAh but smaller capacity packs will reduce the overall weight and make the model totally alive. We know the designer has been flying the prototype with a 3S 25C 1550mAh to give you some idea.
Although Telink has taken some obvious design liberties with the Edge we suspect that the new Telink Edge may prove an extremely popular EPP aircraft that will provide hundreds of carefree adrenaline fuelled flights.
